Green America in the forefront of creating Economic Action for people and the planet

In recent news, Walgreens has started offering digital receipts instead of physical paper receipts that contain toxic chemicals like BPA and BPS, thanks to the Skip the Slip Campaign. Bisphenol A (BPA) and Bisphenol S (BPS) are endocrine disruptors linked to neurological, reproductive, and developmental issues.

In other news, Amazon, the largest clothing seller in the US, has finally announced that it will keep the toxic chemicals of concern below certain thresholds in its private-label brands. This move will protect the consumers as well as the workers, who shouldn’t have to worry about it.

Both successful campaigns were the result of Green America’s efforts, which is a national non-profit organization driving change towards a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.

Their powerful mission drives all their actions, leading to phenomenal results-

“Green America harnesses economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.”

It helps people use their economic power by empowering them to make better choices, and investments, and to collectively take action against injustice, and harmful and unsustainable practices around all of us.

The 3 ways in which Green America is creating change:

1. Education and Mobilization

Green America Magazine- Know Farmers, Know Food

Spring 2023 issue

As consumers, investors, and workers, we hold the most power in driving change in the world. Green America quarterly publishes the Green America magazine addressing topics across climate, food, finance, labor, and social justice.

Every magazine issue creates awareness about each category, empowering its readers to make informed choices leading to holistic and sustainable growth.

2. Green, Innovative Businesses

Small green businesses fuel the green economy, creating jobs and bringing innovation to the forefront. Green America not only certifies green small businesses ensuring their environmental and social responsibility, but also makes them accessible to all of us via their Green Business Network.

3. Greening Corporate Supply Chains

Large businesses and corporations are structured to maximize profits, even at the cost of environmental and social impact. Hence they need to make their structure and supply chains green, which is where Green America steps in.

Its Center for Sustainability Solutions works collaboratively with all parties along complete supply chains, creating and supporting the green transformation.

The system transformations are made by focusing on the four areas-

1. Climate and clean energy
2. Sustainable food and agriculture
3. Responsible investing
4. Fair labor

The organization believes that if these 4 areas are taken care of, with social justice and environmental health in place holistically, the rest of the economy would also follow the lead.

This in itself is a large undertaking, ensuring that companies are not just being sustainable at the country level, but also at the global level.

However, with the immense support of people globally with campaigns and resources, Green America keeps going strong.

As Alisa Gravitz, CEO and President of Green America says,
“Indeed, leadership for a better world will come from people like you and me. Together, we must act boldly, creatively, and with a tremendous amount of cooperation and love.”
