Choosing a format and size

The 8.5 x 11 in tri-fold is the most common brochure. It folds into three panels and fits in a rack or a standard envelope. The 8.5 x 11 in bi-fold folds in half for a larger panel, and 11 x 17 in and 8.5 x 14 in sheets give more room for photographs and detailed content. A4 is available for international audiences. Paper and finishes

Brochure stocks include 80lb and 100lb text and 80lb and 100lb cover. Recycled content ranges from 30% to 100% post-consumer waste depending on the stock. Paper finishes include smooth, vellum, linen and matte, and coatings include matte, satin aqueous and spot gloss. Folded brochures are scored for a clean crease. A text weight suits most folded brochures, and a cover weight gives a sturdier feel for a brochure that will be handled often.

Planning your files

Set up a folded brochure with the panels in the right order for the fold, and keep text away from the creases. Add bleed to any image or color that runs to the edge.
