Sizes

Beverage napkins, also called cocktail napkins, are about 5 x 5 in when folded and are the most popular size for printing. Luncheon napkins are about 6.5 x 6.5 in folded. Dinner napkins are larger and are often folded into a long rectangle to sit beside a plate. Guest towels are a taller napkin for restrooms at events and clubs. Most events use printed beverage napkins at the bar and plain or printed luncheon napkins with food.

Imprint options

The design is usually printed in one corner or centered on the folded napkin. Foil stamping, such as gold or silver, gives a shiny finish that suits weddings and formal events. Ink printing in one or two colors suits logos and simple designs. Fine lines and very small text do not print well on soft napkin paper, so keep the design simple and the type a little larger than you would on a card.

How the eco choices apply to napkins

Napkins are used once, so the material matters. Ask about napkins made with recycled fiber, which are available in some colors and sizes. Used paper napkins with food on them usually cannot go in paper recycling, but uncoated paper napkins can often be composted where food waste is collected. A plain white napkin with a small imprint is the simplest choice.

Cocktail or beverage napkins are about 5 x 5 inches when folded, and about 10 x 10 inches when open.

How many napkins do I need for a wedding?

A common estimate is two to three beverage napkins per guest for the cocktail hour and bar. Add more if the bar is open all evening.

Can napkins be printed in more than one color?

Often, yes, but one-color and foil designs are the most common because they print most cleanly on soft napkin paper. Ask when you request a quote.
