Invitation sizes

5 x 7 in is the most common invitation size, and it fits an A7 envelope. 4.25 x 5.5 in fits an A2 envelope and is often used for reply cards and smaller invitations. 4 x 9.25 in fits a #10 envelope and suits corporate events and galas. Square invitations, such as 5.5 x 5.5 in, stand out in the mail but need extra postage in the United States. Paper and printing options

We print invitations on recycled cover stocks in several weights and shades, on 110lb cotton paper for a soft, heavy feel, and on plantable seed paper that guests can plant after the event. For a more formal invitation, we offer letterpress, foil stamping, blind debossing and edge painting. Flat invitations can be printed on one or both sides, and folded invitations open like a card. Envelopes and mailing

Envelopes are printed on recycled stock to match the invitation. We can print your return address on the back flap, and you can ask about addressing envelopes from your guest list when you request a quote. Reply cards can include a printed and stamped envelope, or you can add a QR code or website for online replies, which saves a second envelope.

An invitation is a small piece, but a full set with envelopes, reply cards and inserts adds up quickly. Printing on recycled or cotton paper with soy-based inks lowers the impact of each piece, and online replies remove the reply card and its envelope. Timing

Send invitations four to six weeks before most events, and six to eight weeks before a gala, fundraiser or out-of-town event. Most invitation orders are ready in one to two weeks from artwork approval, and letterpress and foil add time, so plan for printing before your mailing date.
